Our Dewsbury Workshop: How an Eagle Bed Is Made

Eagle Bed is a British bed maker based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. We are not a reseller or a drop-shipper: the beds we sell are upholstered to order in our own workshop, loaded onto our own van and carried to your door by our own team. This page explains what that actually means for the bed you receive, and why it is different from buying a flat-packed frame that has passed through three warehouses and a courier hub.

Where we are and what we make

Everything is made in West Yorkshire. Our range covers upholstered bed frames, gas-lift ottoman and divan storage bases, divan beds with drawers, wingback and Chesterfield designs, children's beds and UK-made pocket sprung and memory orthopaedic mattresses. The frame comes first

Every Eagle Bed is built on a solid timber frame. The timber structure is what carries the load of the mattress, the sleepers and, on our storage models, the contents of the base — so it is built before any fabric is cut. Foam padding is applied over the timber, and only then does the bed go to the upholstery bench. Every frame we sell is backed by our 5-year guarantee.

Upholstered to order, not pulled off a shelf

We do not hold finished stock in every colour. When an order comes in, the fabric is cut and fitted to that specific bed. That is why you can choose from Plush Velvet, Chenille, Coniston, Naples, Galaxy and Teddy Bouclé, and why we can take custom fabric and colour requests that a mass-market retailer cannot.

Because colour on a screen is never the colour in your bedroom, we send free fabric swatches before you commit. Most of our customers order swatches first, live with them next to their curtains and carpet for a few days, and then buy with confidence. You can request free swatches here.

Made-to-order in every UK size

We build to the standard UK mattress sizes, so any UK mattress will fit: Kids Single 2FT6, Single 3FT, Small Double 4FT, Standard Double 4FT6, King 5FT and Super King 6FT. Because each bed is made for the order rather than picked from a pallet, the size and fabric combination you want is the one that gets built — there is no "only available in grey" compromise.

Storage: three different answers to the same problem

A large part of what we make is storage beds, and the right one depends on your room rather than your budget.

• End-lift gas lift ottoman — the whole mattress platform lifts on hydraulic struts from the foot of the bed. Best if you have clear floor at the end of the bed. Ottoman Gas Lift Divan Base, from £220.99.

Our own delivery team

Finished beds are collected from the workshop and carried to your door by our own delivery team — they are never passed through a courier hub, and they are never handled by people who have no idea what is inside the wrapping. That is the single biggest reason our beds arrive undamaged: fewer hands, fewer vans, one team that knows what it is carrying. Delivery across mainland UK is free.

Why buy from the people who make it

Buying direct from a workshop means the person who answers your email can walk to the bench where your bed is being built. If you want a fabric we do not list, we can usually source it. If you are unsure whether a tall headboard will work under a sloping ceiling, we will talk it through rather than send you a returns label later. And if something does go wrong inside five years, you are dealing with the maker, not a middleman.
