Ottoman Gas Lift Divan Base

Looking for an ottoman bed with proper storage? The Ottoman Gas Lift Divan Base is an end-opening gas lift ottoman bed base, handmade in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Hydraulic gas struts lift the whole mattress platform on a hinge, so you reach the storage underneath without taking the mattress off first. Choose it if you have no spare wardrobe space for bedding, suitcases or seasonal clothes: from £220.99 in Single 3ft to £363.99 in Super King 6ft, with free delivery across Great Britain.

What is a gas lift bed?

A gas lift bed uses hydraulic gas struts to lift the whole mattress platform on a hinge, opening up a large storage compartment underneath without needing to move the mattress off first. It's the most space-efficient way to add hidden storage to a UK bedroom, from £220.99.

Ottoman bed vs divan bed

A divan bed is an upholstered box base, usually with drawers or with no storage at all. An ottoman bed is a divan whose whole mattress platform lifts on gas struts, opening the full footprint of the bed as storage. Eagle Bed's gas lift base starts at £220.99 in Single 3ft.

The end-opening hydraulic gas lift mechanism gives access to the underbed storage space even with a mattress in place, and a firm platform top supports the mattress across its whole footprint. Compatible with all Eagle Bed headboards and available in a wide range of fabrics.

Ottoman, drawers or plain frame?

Gas lift ottoman — the whole mattress platform lifts on hydraulic struts, so you reach the full under-bed area without moving the mattress. Most storage of the three. Choose end-lift (this base, from £220.99) if you have clear floor space at the foot of the bed; choose side-lift (Side Lift Ottoman Storage Base, from £249.99) if the bed sits against a wall at the foot and you have space at one side. Both need room above to swing the platform open.

Divan with drawers — fixed drawers built into the base (Cambridge, Oxford and Sussex Panel Storage Beds, from £259.99). Less total space than an ottoman, but no lifting, and you can open one drawer at a time. Needs clear floor in front of the drawer side.

Plain upholstered frame — no built-in storage (Mirror Strip Sunrise Bed from £285.99, Hilton Wingback Bed from £337.99). Choose this if you already have storage elsewhere, or want the lowest, lightest look.

Will it fit?

Mattress sizes below are UK standards. Measure the wall the bed will sit against, then the floor space left in front, and leave at least 60cm walking space at one side. Because this base is end-lift, keep the floor clear at the foot of the bed so the platform can open.

Still unsure? See our UK bed sizes guide or email eaglebedofficial@gmail.com with your room measurements and we'll tell you which size fits.

Storage

The whole footprint of the bed opens as storage, so there is room under the mattress for bedding, suitcases and out-of-season clothes. Keep the floor clear at the foot of the bed so the platform can swing open. If you would rather lift from the side, see the Side Lift Ottoman Storage Base.
