Side Lift Ottoman Storage Base

Short of space? The Side Lift Ottoman Storage Base is a side-opening gas lift ottoman bed, so the bed can sit foot-to-wall in a narrow or box room and the storage still opens fully. The whole mattress platform rises on a hydraulic gas-lift hinge, and a sprung platform base underneath supports any standard UK mattress. Handmade in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, from £249.99 in Single 3ft to £394.99 in Super King 6ft, with free delivery across Great Britain.

Side lift or end lift — which one?

Side lift (this base) — pick it when the foot of the bed is against a wall, in an alcove, or facing a radiator or wardrobe, and you have clear floor down one side. From £249.99.

End lift — pick it when you have clear floor at the foot of the bed; it's the lower-priced of the two at £220.99 (Ottoman Gas Lift Divan Base).

Both lift the full mattress platform, both need headroom above the bed to swing open, and both take any standard UK mattress.

What is an ottoman bed frame?

An ottoman bed frame is a divan-style bed where the entire mattress platform lifts on a hydraulic gas-lift hinge, revealing a large storage compartment underneath — on the Side Lift model, the platform opens from the side rather than the end, so you can position the bed against a wall and still reach the storage easily. It's one of the most practical ottoman bed frame designs for smaller UK bedrooms, from £249.99.

Ottoman, drawers or plain frame?

Gas lift ottoman — the whole mattress platform lifts on hydraulic struts, so you reach the full under-bed area without moving the mattress. Most storage of the three. Choose end-lift (Ottoman Gas Lift Divan Base, from £220.99) if you have clear floor space at the foot of the bed; choose side-lift (this bed, from £249.99) if the bed sits against a wall at the foot and you have space at one side.

Divan with drawers — fixed drawers built into the base (Cambridge, Oxford and Sussex Panel Storage Beds, from £259.99). Less total space than an ottoman, but no lifting, and you can open one drawer at a time. Needs clear floor in front of the drawer side.

Plain upholstered frame — no built-in storage (Mirror Strip Sunrise Bed from £285.99, Hilton Wingback Bed from £337.99). Choose this if you already have storage elsewhere, or want the lowest, lightest look. Standard under-bed boxes fit beneath.

Will it fit?

Mattress sizes below are UK standards. Measure the wall the bed will sit against, then the floor space left in front, and leave at least 60cm walking space at one side. Because this is a side-lift ottoman, keep one side of the bed clear so the platform can swing open.

FAQ

What is a side lift ottoman bed?

It is an ottoman bed whose mattress platform lifts from the side on gas struts rather than from the end, so the foot of the bed can stay against a wall.

Is a side lift or end lift ottoman better?

Choose side lift if the foot of the bed is against a wall or in an alcove and you have clear floor down one side. Choose the end lift base if you have clear floor at the foot.

Will it suit a small bedroom?

Side opening is useful in smaller rooms, but measure first: you need headroom to swing the platform open and about 60cm of clear floor at one side. Our guide to how ottoman beds work helps.

Is delivery really free?

Yes. Delivery is free across Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and usually takes 3–5 working days from our own team. Northern Ireland delivery is £90.

What is your returns policy?

You have 14 days for free returns, with free collection, if the bed is unused, unassembled and in its original packaging. Faulty items get a free replacement or a full refund.
