Buying guide

What is a wingback bed?

A wingback bed is an upholstered bed frame with tall side panels (wings) angling forward from the headboard, framing the pillows and blocking draughts. The Hilton Wingback has subtly curved winged head and footboards, handmade in West Yorkshire in Single 3ft to Super King 6ft, from £337.99.

Wingback bed vs winged headboard

A winged headboard is the board alone. A wingback bed is the complete frame — headboard, footboard and side rails upholstered to match, so the wings and the base share the same fabric and finish.

Eagle Bed builds both on a solid timber frame, with a 5-year frame warranty and free delivery across Great Britain. If you already own a base, a headboard alone is enough; if you want the whole look, the Hilton Wingback is the full frame.

Wingback, panel or storage?

Wingback — this bed. Tall forward-angled wings for a traditional, enclosed look. From £337.99.

Vertical panel — straight clean lines, no wings: Eagle Mayfair Panel Bed from £311.99.

Wingback with storage — the winged shape on a divan base with drawers: Oxford Wingback Storage Bed from £259.99, or a full gas lift ottoman base from £220.99 (end-lift) and £249.99 (side-lift).
